Karma

Not sure how the karma thing works. Are there guidelines on what behaviors are rewarded, and what punished? Is this implemented by an automatic site formula or a moderator's judgement? So far, karma seems more like an old testament God to me, than a balanced harmonic of positive and negative forces.

Yeah, the safeguards are built into the formula. Just follow the voter guidelines honestly and karma works itself out. Sometimes there are anomalies and some voters seem unqualified and you might think they are congenital idiots devoid of any art experience LOL but failure to reward the pieces that the group thinks are good will make their voting power insignificant. It is not a bad system if people remain honest and informed. It is always better when we have a pool of over 30 voters but lately there has been a decline which is a little puzzling and tends to reduce the pool to a few core groups whose votes are predictable as the sunrise. But the seem to, as a general rule, score within the "Fair Voting" parameters.... generally. As far as the "God" factor, the Admins and judges wield a power of 300 Karma and yes, more often than not they tip the scales. An important note is these people have more experience voting than anyone. And they police the low-ballers. But as I made note about a month ago, a karma of 1 point blew the gold for one of my chops where there was like 0.4000 difference in score LOL. And that is a small part of the reason I rant about voters that give the 3 or 4 lowball votes. Main reason is it is disrespectful. Later gater

I'm just trying to figure out what hoops to jump through to be a good citizen and to have my work judged honestly. If someone tells me one of my pieces should have scored higher, it makes me cautious about rating works. To me that's karma, but seeing how that's effected my karma score, it's an erroneous judgement. I've tried to be encouraging to all entries. The process is clearly more complicated than one would judge at first.
