Switchback

Nearly every time I open the site and try to navigate to the next page whether it be login or contest page I keep getting bumped back to the front page. I repeat this sometimes many times and it finally allows me in. Anyone else experiencing this. For me it started a few months ago an has gotten worse. I thought maybe it was du to me using a cached page in favorites as the launch address but nixed that and still had the same problem. There you go. Please advise

No never go back....
I have had no such problems Tim. I believe a bad link or clicking on a full size entry will intentionally take you to the front page. I love the High res. view since the Master placed a limit on the full size view. The Only real problem I have ran across is navigating from the High Res view to the UN-re-sized submission image. I have to return to the full size image for the link, instead of having direct link in the High Res page.
'Hint'
But I have no idea where your problem may be coming from...maybe "The Master Knows"

First time in 10 years someone reports this happening, Tim!
Really strange!
BUT, I have an idea why it happens. Maybe, just maybe you get some error, then it's possible that the site redirects you to the front page, where the address is actually not www.freakingnews.com, but www.freakingnews/def.asp
See this def.asp part? That's a "default" index page, but when everything goes smoothly you should have ether
www.freakingnews.com/default.asp or simply www.freakingnews.com
in your address bar when you are on the front page for any reason. When the front page cache resets you would get www.freakingnews.com/default.asp, but not def.asp
and even then, front page cache reset happens once every 50 minutes, so it can not fit the repetitive scenario you are describing. My guess is that it's an error and you are ending up on def.asp

Please very carefully look at your browser address bar when it happens and tell me here what address you see exactly when you are on the front page.
I suspect you have some kind of corrupted FN cookie, so the site can't recognize you after the login and starts giving you an error effectively redirecting to the front page after the error (thought you will not see any error in this case, will simply be redirected).

My advice is, clean all your cookies when it happens. And definitely clean your browser cache. Restart the browser, and try again.
I do advise you to use Chrome too - it's faster than FireFox and well integrated with Google. (I will be silent about IE, if you don't want me to say swear words)

Just a thought..after reading The N-Masters reply...
Could it be possible that your security settings are to high and just not accepting the sites cookies?

Nah, then he would not be able to login at all - a cookie is required to login at FN. He would not be able to login, but it would not cause errors browsing.

Yeah, what Newsey said. If it is set too high it won't let me on and I get maddening alerts when search for pics because half the time I search unfiltered content when I am not finding applicable sources in filter mode.

Normally yes, but really depends of what kind of options you have ticked. In principle you can disable cleaning cookies while cleaning cache - gotta look at those tick-boxes when you choose clean.

I'm having trouble. The FN cookies sound like they are from England and refuse to be cleaned. They keep insisting they are no longer cookies but biscuits after all. WTH!!!!????
