Source Images

Hello out there, I was just wondering what the procedure is for including a source picture at the bottom of an entry. Is it the similar to linking a news story in Pictures in News? Thanks for any advice.

Hi

Yes, just add any source links the same way you would a news link for the news contests in the authors comment box

But just do it as a "link" to the source picture, don't use image code so the actual image shows up under your entry (as that makes the contest page confusing and can throw the page format out of whack...if a big image is hotlinked for example )

So yeh, just a link to a source image, or if you use multiple sources, some people like to compile them into one image and upload that to an image hosting site and link to that to show all the sources at once

Hmmm...there's quite a few to chose from.

For one off source picture links (that don't necessarily have to stay up forever) tinypic.com is quick and easy to use (and to link to)

Imageshack is also pretty good.

Photobucket is my favourite. Quick and easy to get the image URL.

Tinypic makes you do a bot check every time you post, and they've turned them into advertisements now (like you gotta write "Geico is the greatest insurance company EVER" when you post a pic to prove you're human).

It gets real annoying, real fast.

Imageshack doesn't allow one-offs anymore, or they only allow a few until they force you to join.

imgur.com is now #1 for fast, hassle free image hosting. You can upload multiple files at the same time by multi-selecting or by drag-and-drop, and they provide links and code (BB and HTML....all on the same page, unlike Photobucket or Flickr) so you don't have to memorize code if you don't want to.

Also, unlike a lot of these sites, they don't restrict you to hotlinking only a thumbnail (not that this is an issue given what mac said, but just sayin...).

See...look how easy that was.

If anyone's not tried it, give it a shot...very good and very fast.

There are a couple others that are better than tinypic or imageshack as well, but I can't remember their names...just google "fast imaging hosting" and they'll pop up in the 1st 10.

Thanks Malcom, I posted some pics on imgur. Had to register first though. There was already an AzureSky on there and variations. I called myself Camilla Hart. If you have seen Call the Midwife you will understand.

What is a bot check? Sounds like something pertaining to your derriere lol!

I do appreciate your posts and had been missing you. Freaking News is a tolerant site compared to many.

I was kicked off a site called www.wisewomenunite.com for being honest. The owner is an 85 year old woman who likes to sugar coat everything and skirt around issues.

Shame in a way because it was pretty interesting with Jerry Springer type tales of woe. I actually solved the problem I was looking for an answer to by taking my own advice. Ironic that it was advice I got kicked off for.

The other site I was kicked off was a dog site I was appalled at the cruel training methods they advocated like prong collars, beatings, and electric collars and said so.

Any way thank you Malcom

Maybe us Yanks have it better than y'all do. I use imgur all the time and I've never registered.

Captcha...stuff like that. It does have a certain "brown eye" quality to it, though.

Yeah...I got temporarily banned from another site, and the mod dude was kinda being cool and kinda being a jerk, so I just flat told him that abiding by, or not abiding by, a ban was strictly my choice, and if he thought he had dealt with anyone like me in the past that I'd be happy to demonstrate for him by showing him my handy work elsewhere that he hasn't.

I also said that I am happy to restrain myself any time I am properly and politely informed of my transgression, in a manner which is not a willful attempt to demean me.

He's still a bit leery of me, but we've had much more positive discussions and interactions since I put the brakes on his attempt to assert power over me, and we've even shared a few laughs.

All people gotta do is be nice, cool or (preferably, though not necessarily) both and I am the nicest guy you'd ever want to meet.

Photobucket gives you a choice of links, url, http email, and another I can't remember.
Only disadvantage is they come out very big when you link them.

Hmm photobucket has changed. Can't use the URL link now.
