Weekly caricature contest?

First of all I dont mean this in a negative way at all. I love the caricature stuff and I have been known to do it myself from time to time. I have been away from freaking news since 2006 and I have noticed some changes. Seems like a good number of entries are this type of work. When I first started here the idea was to make a entry look as real as possible. And I notice that some people still enjoy doing this including me. But I feel that these are two diff. Kinds of work. And the caricature stuff wins a good chunk of the time over the more realistic photo work. Could we just have a weekly caricature contest? And please dont take this the wrong way.. I do know how hard it is to do these works of art. It just seems like two totally diffent things. Thanks,,hilly

lol

I think the caricatures have become popular recently because there's been a couple of people here that are really good at them.

And because of that, some people will want to try them out for themselves.

But to have a separate contest just for caricature chops probably won't work.

They are still "photoshop" but yes, they aren't realistic looking in an "is it real" way.....but then there's been a trend away from "real looking" chops in the past few years.....things have got a bit more "arty"....and that's also the result of new filters turning up like the dreaded "topaz" lol.....(just kidding...) and the fact that people are making chops from different types of sources other than "straight photos" as happened in the past.

I would like to add however, that I don't think anyone here should downplay the realistic chops....(I know I don't)

Anyone who's been chopping for a while would know that to make an effective, real looking chop isn't easy....and to pull one off convincingly requires someone to pay attention to light, shadow, color, perspective etc in a precise fashion....

So I think that if people are doing realistic chops....they still have just as much of a chance of doing well as other types of chops (including caricatures) if they are done well.

I think the only time caricature chops might be "pushing it" a lil, is when they are in the news contest....and the author hasn't done much else other than do a caricature of someone in the news story, rather than "chop" the news story itself. (just my opinion however )

participating in FN contests is an amusing pastime for me and i enjoy doing a mediocre/modest entry when my busy retiree schedual permits.
but i admit, i find it annoying to see an increasing number of 'caricatures' however professional they are.
and yes, its unfortunate, the discussion has overwelmed the author of the excellent Obama Toy Soldier entry...

cheers!

ps. why doesn't my avatar appear here??
]] Many Thanks!
