Submitting Pics

I find that when I submit my pic, I notice that it's no where near as bright and sharp as the PSD file. I save to web and adjust size and quality so it is about 350KB. What am I doing wrong and how can I fix it. Thanks

Mia, are you saying your saved jpeg image (before submission) is much worse than the PSD file, or do you mean that the saved jpeg is fine, but after you load it to FN it loses quality?

It's after I load it to FN it loses quality. When I view it on my web browser it looks fine but on FN it looks washed out.

Mia, let's do this. Put a link to any of your entries that considerably lost quality, and we'll investigate.

Here is a link to Imgur of the exact pic it looks a bit brighter and crisper.

It's probably not a big deal I just want to know how I can submit my pic and retain it's original quality.

Here's your original image that you uploaded:

and here's the same image processed by FreakingNews (full view):

As krrish said there's very little difference.

The contest view (below) is resized and thus some details are a bit lost. But you will have the same effect when you resize in Phoptoshop:

never mind. I figured it out.

why do the rules say 500pxls wide when it's 1000, though? weird.

anywhoo...sorry to clutter up the thread...later.

It's all inside the brackets,[ then capitals url=" paste news url, " then end bracket \story line\ [/URL bracket end. took a couple of typing errors to figure it out. Hope this helps, there is also an upload in the community area, to put pics here like this one using the brackets click here , don't know how to upload to say this page, but I think it's an outside URL.

You can upload photo using an image file if you put your image on Photobucket.
I have not noticed any loss of quality on high resolution images.
I do mine at 150 resolution then use save for the web to get it under 350kb.

As far as I was able to ascertain, you can upload contest photos directly from your hard drive. I just had an issue because the BB Code for URL was ever-so-slightly different than than I'd ever seen before. Now that I've caught it, it's all good.

(and, I like imgur.com for photo uploads...quick, easy...no fuss, no muss...also, I have 32bit photo editing software, so my images which fit within submission guidelines are usually under 100 kb, so 350 feels opulent)

My subsequent question went to the rules stating the contest submission guideline were 350 pixels wide minimum to 500 wide X 1000 long maximum, when the max is obviously 1000X2000. I don't know if those are old standards or what, but someone should change them if they are incorrect (and it wasn't just a case of me reading them incorrectly). This was in the FAQ (though, I may be the only person who reads these before posting on a site, so it may be a moot issue...)

When you do save for the web the image comes out at 72pixels but you keep the size.
I had the same issue as you when I first started. Many early submissions were ruined because I didn't know about it.

Sorry, but not knowing much about this, I find it a bit (well, more than a bit really ) confusing. Is it better to upload directly from my hard drive or through something like Imageshack? Is that what you mean by "save for the web"?

When you are using Photoshop , go to file , then "save to web & devices" After that, you can resize your entry photo plus lower or higher the quality to be as close to 350 KB but not higher . Very Simple !!!! I like my Width normally at 950 , thats a good size for contests in general , Good Luck !!!

Thanks, Chili, but I don't have Photoshop. I use Gimp, which doesn't seem to have that facility, so should I still save to something like Photobucket or ImageShack? or just upload from my hard drive?

OK, so I'm trying to vote now and every time I hit 'submit', it says that my votes were recorded for the previous page and that I now need to review the current page...and nothing appears to have been recorded. I use firefox...wrong browser? Do I need a plug in? Thanks.
