Color settings

Hello to everybody
Please help, if anybody know what are the most proper color settings for Photoshop Cs3 to tell me and if I have to do some settings when I use 'save for the web and devices' option. Why sometimes after I save the pictures have less accuracy like a soft noise or something like that?

Some of your recent chops indeed have pixelation in them, and I am not sure what's causing it. Increase sharpness gives other kinds of distortions (contrast lines), but not pixelation.

Other members should be able to help you better because I am using Corel PhotoPaint rather than Photoshop.

But you remember that chop which you now use for your avatar? You also had that problem there and then you uploaded the new clean version without pixelation. I think you figured out what caused it then?

When I made the chop with my avatar I used Photoshop Cs2 and I had that pixelation result still I don't know for sure the cause, possible is the color profile. I removed it and made it again in Cs3 and magic thing there was no pixelation... don't know why that thing happened again and I use the same Cs3. I don't understand, really!

Yes, I thought about it I think is better to go back at 'save as' option, and just one more question when I want to save gif files I set no dither and I know the image should look clean but instead of a clean image it shows me a image like a painting, pixelated what should I do? I tried all the option but neither one give me a clean gif.

You should not save as GIF at all! Save as JPG file.

(I only save for web when I work with GIF files, but chop files are NOT gif files, they are JPG files!)

hey Sun, I don't think that ur problem is in the PS colour settings , u can use the default one and it's gonna be fine. ur problem with pixelation comes from the size.
working within the ( 350 Kb ) is tricky, how to overcome that..
here is few things that I know about this matter :

1- lighten pics will increase the size, darkened ones will not,
2- sharpened pics will increase the size, smoothed ones will not.
3- too much colouring and light effects will increase the size and the otherwise is not ...

focusing on all that will lead you to the size and Dimensions ( most Important ):
ur last chop dimensions was ( 1422 X 1231 ) and I guess it's too much for the 350 KB allowed, that's why i think the Pixelation showed
try to make it max 1200 KB for height,
and when you do ( save for the web ) keep your eye on the Quality Bar, It should not be less than 70 or something...

finally here is a very useful tut by AZRainman for the (save for web Option )

OK, you have to play with "pallette" setting to get a good gif.
Set palette to "Adaptive" or "Optimized" - they both work well.

Try it.

Great link to AZ's tut, Salis!

I am not sure the dimensions are any problem. I think it's the color palette. See, when she uploads the image - the full view shows no pixelation:
Full View

but as soon as the entry is resized we see how pixelated it gets:

Contest View

This doesn't happen with other entries (or most entries anyhow). So I think it has to do with some simplified color pattern in which the image is saved originally, which results in our resizing library having hard time getting a "smooth" resized version, because the colors are limited there (256 colors perhaps?)

Aww...thank you so much Salis, Newsy... I appreciate a lot your help. I think it could be the both the size was to big I should crop more and there is a small trouble in Cs3 when I use 'save for the web' I don't have the option convert to sRGB and the color profile wasn't sRGBIEC61966-2.1 my profile color was Adobe RGB(1998 ).
The question is it: does it matters if I use at color settings Adobe RGB or should I use sRGBIEC61966-2.1 ?
Now I had install CS4 and I see the colors settings now is on sRGBIEC61966-2.1, on web I found that people say this profile is more proper but still I am not sure because I observed many photos from web are on Adobe RGB color profile.
Am I confused but I am happy I have now a newer version of photoshop, most of the time I used Cs3, hope I will not have this kind of problems no more.
And thanks for the explanations really hadn't know the smooth, the sharpen, dark and colors can change so much the size...I have notice that but I didn't know. Thank you so much!!

hey sun , I use CS, and Cs4, and the both colouring settings are : sRGBIEC61966-2.1, and it's working fine for me, so I think it will be fixed with the Cs4 that you have now ( but keep it on Default .
if it didn't work here is another solution for u , hold the PC-case tide and throw it out of the window, hopefully Gaddafi will be walking be, and everybody wins , good luck

After several hours of blood and sweat we have plugged a new resizing library which seems to do way better job, even for images with problematic color patterns. I have re-uploaded the two entries of Sunshine which had pixelation in the contest view, and they dont have any pixelation after under the new resizing algo.

Also, the max 1200 pixels for hight should not make any difference - make the entry big in full view, and dont worry about pixelation - it's all been taken care of!
