Women contest

Well, I have to eat my words, what a huge turn out for this contest
Some truly amazing entries from what looks like a variety of entrants.
Wouldn't it be great if this were to continue?

It is hard to tell if there is a variety of entrants. I suspect that the large number of entries will be attributed to just a few entrants, similar to the Half Animals contest, where over half of the entries were submitted by one person and only two people submitted two entries.

A photochopper is someone who composes the same image day after day without repeating themselves.

Well the usual folk did multiple entries I counted 16 from one. Despite that there were some old friends and new who submitted chops.

I did four, but finished the last one about 5 minutes too late to enter it. 'Sokay.

I would rather see five or less good quality chops than 10 or more hastily done mediocre chops.
It makes me sad when I see a chop that could have been outstanding, but is ruined by lack of attention to details.
Common faults are inaccurate cutting out, shadows coming from different directions, faces pasted on that don't fit.
I cannot understand why some people regularly flood the contests with mediocre chops instead of learning more about Photoshop and gaining skills.
I have seen as many as 19 entries in the past. 16 in the last one all by one person.
If you want to win a Trifecta then naturally 3 entries are needed of good quality. Not lots of inferior ones.
This is just my opinion, not many agree with me.

Maybe some people just enjoy chopping.....

I remember when I played softball....I didn't play because I had to win all the time....I played because I loved playing.

I enjoyed playing as a team, I enjoyed the smell of the grass on a warm summers day, I enjoyed throwing a curve ball at batter, just to watch their face wrinkle in shock when the umpire called a strike when they didn't swing because they thought it was going to be a ball.....that's what I remember about it.....not the wins, but all of that stuff....

Everyone has different skill sets here Azure....but the most important thing in life I think is to enjoy what you are doing.....not everyone can be a master chopper, and some may not want to either, same way as not everyone can pitch a softball at the olympics.....

But the people who do chop......"enjoy doing it". Someone who chops 20 entries in a contest, their entries aren't inferior to the people who spend hours on just one or two....to me it shows enthusiasm and a love of just making a funny chop....(and incidentally, the someone who made 16 chops last contest had one finish in the top ten)

Both types of choppers have a place here I think

I dunno. I think voters get weary as they get to the bottom of a long list of voting. I'd love for someone to do a study on how often early entries win. Seems to me at a casual interested glance, the winners are often on the first or second page of voting. In this contest, one I entered early, my "Mrs. Jones" is pretty damn good, but it finished 35th of 60. I think it's at least partially due to the fact that it's back on the last pages of voting. At other sites, the entries change their position during voting. So each voter sees them in a different order. I wish we had that -- because as it is, I feel I'm throwing away entries if I enter them too soon. And someone entering 10 chops after I enter mine is going have an advantage for every one of those 10, even if they're not as skilled or careful. That's how I see it. Stats is the only way to know.

A while back there was a discussion about this, maybe mac can find it The outcome was that early entries can and do win.

I still think somebody who loves to chop, would surely benefit from trying to improve their skills.

Multiple entries do increase the odds of winning. The criteria for voting seems to have changed in the last ten years.

I remember, mac, how particular you were about your own work. It was a pleasure to look at.

If you want the brilliant choppers to enter, they won't want their work appearing in a sea of mediocrity

Just remember azure, the sea of mediocrity as you call it, is created by members who read the forums.

I'm not suggesting early entries can't win - I'm saying that statistically it's better to enter later than earlier. And this wouldn't happen in any way if they mixed up the entries per voter.

Icy, it really doesn't make any difference. I am sitting on a mountain top waiting for the tsunami. The forums are so quiet these days.

The multiple chops don't bother me.Live and let live,as long as choppers are having fun and getting enjoyment out of their work,I see no problem with it.I don't think limiting chops is the way to go.Personally, I haven't been entering many multiples lately, cause I haven't had the time.If I did have the time, I would be entering as many as I could.I don't get bothered by so-called inferior chops, multiples or singles. When I first started off on FN,I was a hot mess.My chops were crazy bad,but I kept on plugging away. The crappier I was,the more determined I was to get better.Honestly,HoHouse's chops are funny. He has my warped sense of humor. His are always entertaining, even if some of them might not be his best work. Lucianomorelli's chops are frequent, but he is creative and his chops are good. Both guys get on the podium,so they are doing something right.I get on the podium from time to time, and I must admit it is a great feeling. The competition is fierce here on FN.The talent on this site is hard to beat.I feel elated if I get the wood.I've never got a silver or a gold trophy, but I won't be deterred .I get frustrated, but that's the game,Win some lose some.I think NewsMaster should bring back the Apprentice contests, that's my biggest gripe.

GIFs seem to be working fine?
There is a prevalent consideration with some that an early entry can't be all that good because it took too little time to do. This of course is wrong. I sometimes start chops weeks, even months ahead anticipating the subject will be usable in some form later on. I call them doodles. I get a flash of a cool idea and start it but then save it as a PSF file for... whatever fits down the road. And some chops just don't take all that long if they are done in a familiar style and are formulaic in nature. Occasionally I enter early and, yeah, I have had less success with early entries though the chops are of really good quality. But mostly I enter the last minute because the chops generally take a long time to make. It is pretty much that simple. What bugs me is having a ton of chops burry me in the bottom by a ton of even later entries. I learned as a young artist your best chance of being seen longer is the spaces closest to the entrance. (at exhibitions) So that has buried its fingers of wisdom in me all these years and even translates here. Multiple entries by choppers just learning or having a great time are fine, of course. But there is such as thing as so bad they insult the eye... no more explanation needed there, nod and a wink. But practice makes perfect and forget ye not we all sukked in the beginning as well. I generally as a rule do not enter multiples because I might edge some other choppers out that deserve to win too. I have done it and never feel good about it. One would think someone with an ego as big as mine I wouldn't care but I do. (I am not being arrogant about capturing multiple trophies- just realistic) There are only 4 trophies... But I am like any other chopper here, sometimes the muse hits and I'll drop in a few more. But here is the rub. All the chops suffer in quality because I can't devote that magical extra 15 minutes, or in my case the magical 2 hours. Whatever level you chop at, there will be compromises on those multiple entries unless you are Mundo hahahahah. That dude was a machine and still maintained good quality.
But ultimately it seems to come down to how much of your imagination and creativity you are willing to let out. The more you cut it loose the longer the chop will take and quite likely, the better it will be. That is not true always, but true enough. That's my two cents. Hugs and cheers XO
