Beards, beards and more beards.

After seeing all the bearded ladies in the Freak Shoe, may I suggest a beard contest for the beard experts to show us their work.

It would be rather cool to have the regular choppers take up the challenge and see if any of us can get in the top 5.

Personally, I find the bearded ladies rather repetitive. Sorry if I am offending anyone.

As soon I saw the sheer number of beards I opted out of the Freak Show. I was delighted to the the top three were really interesting top quality chops.

I think every one has harvested their crop of beards for a while.
Might be best to wait a month to give the beards time to grow back out.

It just annoys me to see so many chops by one person that are so much alike. Why can, he enter 2 or 3, any more is boring. More likely to put people off than attracting them to the site.

I think you are wrong azure, it may be boring to you and some others, but not everyone see's this as you do.

I enjoyed all the bearded entries as they are always so well done, I would rather all those of good standard to view than a contest with many sub standard entries.

You have discussed this about before also and as you can see as much as things change, they stay the same also.

I don't dispute the quality of the bearded chops for a second. My issue on this occasion was that they were all really good. I am inclined to think less is more.
I was actually very surprised to see the beards were beaten by the top three chops.
You are, of course right about the beards being better than a flood of sub standard chops.
To be honest, I do prefer realistic chops and was very happy to see the spectacles contest had some lovely realistic chops.
I was beginning to think FN had become almost exclusively a caricature site.
Some of the very best realism chops have been by people who have since turned to caricature/cartoon chops. Presumably on the principle if you can't beat 'em join 'em.
You have produced a lot of beautiful work. I expect you are too busy these days but I remember your work. ...

Thx Az, but my work was done in analogue and a dinosaur of a monitor and I see most of it as crap personally.
As for busy, seems the older my girl gets the less time I have...but I don't mind. Time with her is what matters most to me.

Choppers now are in a whole other category. Some of the work they produce is amazing, I like the caricatures, I like the realism, to be honest I like any work that has taken the time and care to bring it to the standard that some of "the greats" bring to the contests here.

I really don't think an artist will chop something on the premise "if you can't beat them join them" I can't see someone chopping just to be part of the crowd, an artist does what pleases themselves (and contest directions)and if they choose to do a caricature maybe they are just testing their own strengths/growing.

Kellie, your work is not and never has been crap. I had a look through a lot of it and added your amazing Jennifer Lopez chop to my favourites. Your insect and animal chops are great too.

I have had people tell me they do adapt to the currently popular styles to have a chance of winning. You are right of course that it is a whole different ball game now.

The amazing artists that come to FN have taken photoshop into the stratosphere. I don't have a clue how some of the most outstanding works are done. I will keep studying to find out how they are done.

You girl must be such fun to be with, it is lovely to see your offspring grow and develop. She must be nearing her teens. I don't know what they do for fun these days, discos seem to be old hat now.

I hope your little dog is well, so cute. My grandaughter and partner have just got a 12 week old black Shar pei. It is the strangest looking puppy I have ever seen. His name is Sweep.

When you can find time, I really hope you will do some chopping. I know you are very self critical where your work is concerned, but honestly you do have talent and a great sense of humour.

Yes, our older chops don't look quite so great on digital monitors, but your humour and style still stand out. I'll bet you can still produce some corkers. Talent doesn't just disappear.
