Adding source photos required

I think we should have the posting of source photos be required ,I notice that some choppers use other artists work ,even if the rules disallow .This might stop this. I also think its hard to see the work a person does ,some just add a head to a wonderful image.. which is great ,, but Id like to compare oranges to oranges . Source photos will also show the amount of filters used in the piece.Im not a fan of over using filters to mask mistakes.. A little can go along way. Everyone has a style and if someone uses them thats fine,Id just like it to show by viewing the source . If you disagree thats fine,, it was just a thought .

Valid point here, pree, and it was suggested by other members in the past too. We welcome members posting the source images, but actually "requiring this" does pose some difficulties:

1) Many members have big issues with HTML. No matter how many times we explain how to post links in the News in Pictures contests and forums, many members still struggle with it.

2) If it's required, many chops will have to be removed, and because of the problem (1) there will be quite a few images in each contests which will be just killed. The members who struggle with HTML and get their chops DQed will finally give up and stop entering.

Good post preem and follow up Newsy. I would like to see more source images too, but not make it mandatory for reasons Newsy pointed out. What sources that are displayed are usually from one of the "pros", and I find them quite interesting and helpful. What you might do preem, is post a comment requesting the author to post his source image(s).

One way to avoid the HTML issues is for FN to provide an entry link to an authors own "Source Gallery" that displays on FN similar to the Favorites Gallery and functions like browsing and uploading an entry image, i.e., no coding required.

A photochopper is someone who composes the same image day after day without repeating themselves.

I like to see sources, too. Over at W1K they make you "pay" to enter and if you don't pay and someone doesn't sponsor you, you cannot win -- you can place, but you can't grab the trophy or tokens. Perhaps that's a working way here -- you can't get the cash if you haven't shown your sources. There are plenty of picture uploading for free sites online and they provide links that you just copy and paste, with html added.

Just an idea.

It took about 5 misfires for the URL code to sink in but Kellie said it would, or was it Mac? Dang I hate Alzheimers LOL I think a dirt simple (how to)video might be in order.

I post source for a few reasons. 1. If I have the time and saved everything. Often I delete from my desktop as I go. 2. I voters seem to be voting (trend) towards taste and overlooking technical quality, the other half of the whole vote. It tends to be a subtle reminder to us that substance counts too. 3. When a chop looks unchopped. A perfect chop looks like nothing was don and unfortunately only a really seasoned eye can break it down, and sometimes not even then LOL 4. To show complex composition and integration. Like showing a record of how many hoops had to be jumped to pull it off. That gives the noobs a peek into the massive amount of work it really does take to pull some of these off. The pros make it look simple and none of it really is. It gets easier... but not simpler.

Here's another thought on uploading and displaying source images.

Create a Contest "Source Gallery" for each contest where users entering a contest could upload one source image of their entry that could contain multiple image sources on one image. There would be a Submit Source link for browsing and uploading (no HTML) similar to up loading a contest image. These would be displayed in a Contest Source Gallery, accessible for viewing through a separate link with text referring to the entry Title (no user names). The Contest Options could include a Source Gallery link to view the submittals as could the Entry Options. This feature would be optional but users would be encouraged by receiving extra credits for doing so.

Newsy could do the coding in a day or two. Besides it would keep him busy.

Good thoughts and suggestions!
I may be able to implement what GRM suggested, but first I need to change the site redesign - there are still many sections (including this forum) which need to be updated. Been working on the internal site messaging system - should launch it in the coming days - stay tuned!

It is pretty cool. Every now and then I'll be snooping around the site and go, "Oh, that's new!" LOL I think I catch you late at night, early your time tinkering. It is like that black cat in the Matrix. Suddenly something changes but you aren't sure what LOL Makes me wonder if I took the red pill or the blue pill Heheheheh
