Crazy electricity policy in UK!

Electrity companies to cut power in UK

This is ridiculous we already pay a fortune for electricity. Just wondering how Americans would react to this news?

I don't think you understood the article HoHouse. The point is they want to TURN OFF the electricity for up to 7 hours a day.

Not good for people who need heating, have freezers, security alarms. All kinds of things depends on electricity. Babies, baby alarms, heating formula, old people, the list goes on.

The UK is run by the Conservatives, Right wing Republicans (but who believe in Royalty) would be the nearest equivalant, so I do not see your point.

Our electricity bills are very high about $1000 a year for a small house. But that is n't what this is about. The government want to save fuel.

They are also introducing a bedroom tax for every empty bedroom. I bet you Wouldn't like that in America, It would cost more to administer than they will raise.

That sounds good, get the homeless off the streets, and put them in ur extra bedroom. It's the cost of fuel and social benefits.

There isn't always work available, the elderly on small pensions or the sick and/or disabled cannot work. It is people in tiny apartments or trailers who will be affected by the bedroom tax. How many homeless have YOU taken in?

If my electric bill was only $1000 a year I would squeal with utter delight. I have a modest 3 bed 2 bath now and looks like it will be no less than $200 a month. The old place wa $250 to $300 a month.
I think turning the power off every day will reduce the UK to a third world country like Jamaica which did it intentionally or unintentionally every day in Kingston.
I say screw the worm lovers, sell one of those crowns studded with all those jewels and build a couple more nuke plants and be done with the argument. They can cry about it over a hot meal cooked in a microwave and a house warmed by electric heater.
Or go totally off the grid like I plan to do at some point and to New Jersey with the power company.
I have a friend that is doing that and the power company PAYS HIM because he generates more power than he uses right back into the grid.

I live in a one bed, one bath, retirement apartment, we have a workshop in the garden, so our electricity bill is fairly low.

Boy that's the way to go if you can reduce your accumulated stuff down to a one bed one bath. I envy you. When I moved in 2005 I had accumulated enough tools and furniture and... well... junk.... to fill three 27 foot U-haul moving trucks. in the last 8 years I have reduced that down to 1 truck but it still fills this place. Well, that is almost true. We recently purchased and were given quite a few new items like beds, couch dining table and what-not. Summer is here early so ran the ac a few times. We'll see what the dammage is in a few more weeks LOL
Happy chops

Pretty happy with that.

We don't have air conditioning at hime nor do most people, it just doesn't get hot enough. We did have a unit for about three years but it hardly got used. Then it broke and we never replaced it.

In winter we have one night storage in the living room and one in the hall. There is a heater in the bathroom. Our water is heated by electricity too.

A lot of people in my neck of the woods have installed solar panels. We have solar lights outside but they don't go on until Spring. The weather is rarely hot by our standards. If it reaches 100F it is headline news!

The disadvantage of such a changeable climate is that you need clothes for winter, spring and summer. It can get very cold here with below freezing temperatures.

That rocks Kellie. $24.00!!!! Wow... that's the ticket.
I'll be interested to see what the weather is like up here in Yosemite. We're on the down slope of a mountain with a northwestern exposure so will tend to get pretty full days of sunlightall year round which makes it super if we go solar. I have about an acre of unused slope that I can carefully place some panels that will blend in and be less visible from around the area. I want to leave soft footprints if any in this environment. I reckon we'll have a bit more extreme weather changes than you all in the UK, Chris. We're right on the snow line where it can be comfortable, like a foot or two or sometimes I hear they get creamed with 8 or more feet. Summer gets into the 90s F, winters in the teens. Once I get my PC back from the shop I'll take some pics and post some pictures of our new digs.
I guess the puter did get hit by lightning as there were a lot of things goofy, not just the power supply
