Apprentice Contests Are Dead?

Also, vicspa is dead?

Something is up...No one is posting in the forums anymore (not that they were ever hoppin', but there was usually somethin; goin' on...), entries in the contests are dropping severely, and the same, very small group of people are winning all the time (and I get that they're skilled, but their stuff isn't always the best...not even close, sometimes).

What up?

(mostly, I just want to know if vicspa is still out there...feel free to ignore the rest.)

I expect Vicspa is busy in the run up to Christmas. Mind you I haven't had any emails from him for a while.
As for the apprentice contests, I can't enter them.

Usually around Christmas time the number of entries drop off a bit cause real life sometimes gets in the way of Photoshop. It usually picks up again once people recover from the Holidays

Hello all, I'm back, I had many personal things going on recently, including a 15 day Danube river cruise, and we just got back home yesterday, and now are catching up on everyday life as it was.
I hope to be chopping again soon, but got word from work that I'll be busy for the upcoming week.
Thank you all for thinking of me, much appreciated, especially to you Malcolmxy and Azure.

Thanks for the logo Malcolm, been cruising from Budapest to Amsterdam.
Azure, I answered your mail from the ship, but not sure it went through.

But I agree, the chops are not that good that are winning. But look at the votes -- someone out there DOES think they are that good. A recent winning chop that confounded me had some 10 votes. Really? Really?

And on another thread I started, I mentioned some tricks certain choppers play, using pix that indicate "hey, I'm in the in-crowd, better vote high for me!" ... and there's one in the fractal contest that is THAT exactly. And what do you know, it won!

It is what it is. But what it is makes me want to take my toys and play elsewhere. I don't have to win, but I want a fair playing ground and I'm really feeling it ain't happening here.

Maybe it never happens.

I guess your on about the fractal dog pic I entered. It wasn't particularly that good but I think it won because it was the only pic that followed the contest directions . Bifurcation (self similarity on different scales).
Ill take it as a compliment though as I rarely win and consider myself a fringe member as opposed to one of the "in crowd"
I can usually tell who the hidden artist is by the style and Usually their work is really Good!

What is putting me off entering contests is the sheer number of Obama chops, or some other politician. The joke is beginning to wear a bit thin.
I have found that there are fashions and trends that come and go. The current trend doesn't really favour my kind of work.
A while back it was all manga, fluffy bunnies and no story in many cases. Now it is politicians being silly. All stylised in bright colours.
Flawless work does not necessarily get good votes now. A chop with lots of content will usually do well here.
Not that there is anything wrong with any of the above. It just isn't my cup of tea.
I am sure another trend will come along soon, and become the new fashion.

On the subject of the Obama chops I noticed ages ago well over a year ago, that every winning photochop was him and one in my opinion was messy round the edges and badly cut, all in all a sloppy cut, but from memory it came in 1st or 2nd, he/she must have had friends vote, or it may have just been an Obama week. Any way after that if I saw an Obama entry I didn't bother to submit one.

Could some one clarify for me if the rules of the entry are not followed by some photochops do you have to submit a vote for every entry those that dont follow the guidelines or rules?

This is my last winning chop and it is of Obama. Is this what you are referring to?

That is very well done I can see why it got a 1st place, and it is very funny as well.

I would like to find a couple of the old ones I was referring to, they were over a year ago, but the site does not have a search engine, so I will have to find them some other way.

I couldn't find the Obama ones I was looking for, the word Obama must not hsve been included in the entry, but I did find this one, not of Obama just not well cut out, where the cropping even got a mention from NewsMaster. http://www.freakingnews.com/Man-Tripping-Over-Dog-Pics-95173.asp . I know that I didn't give this picture a very high vote, just because of the hands.
And I didn't want to vote for this one, but I did I went back at the last minute and submitted a vote. as it broke the rules of the contest, and I see now that NewsMaster mentioned it in his comment

There is a search engine at the bottom of the page. Just put Obama in and hundreds will come up!
