Speeeeeed Contests

I realize that there are time differences throughout the world, and we all chop at different times, but has there ever been a contest where you have limited time to enter?
I'm talking about an hour or two only, where speed counts.

Don't think we have ever done that. But as you said, that's probs because of all the time differences around the world.

I will destroy all of you in this contest.

I was thinking more like a 15-minute head to head contest, and I have no idea if you were thinking of me or not, vic (can I call ya vic? too late...already did.), but this is basically where I've been going for quite a while - not great, but good enough given how quickly and prolifically I used to pump this stuff out (got some other stuff happenin' right now, so not able to do that any longer).

I'd also like to see a NO TOPAZ OR FOTOSKETCHER contest...I wonder what some of the people here who are considered the better photomanipulators among us could do without those 2 particular crutches.

Also, these don't have to be public contests...they could be little fun games that an area was set up to accommodate. Then, y'all (talkin' to you, mac and newsie) could feature any final pics that you wanted to, because in a situation as restricted as a 16-minute time limit, there's gonna be some carp that comes out...but, there also might be something great that is created with that kind of limitation imposed.

People are forced to be creative when they are obstructed. Total freedom kills creativity - no joke.

Call me anything you want Malcolm, but Vic will do. I don't have any Topaz filters, but I'm afraid I had a hand in Introducing fotosketcher here.
"a 15-minute head to head contest" sounds great to me, I was thinking more 1 1/2 hour, half hour to gather images, and one hour to do chop. It would start at your particular time zone, end an hour and a half later, and when all time zones are ended, the voting would follow.
The reason I'm asking for speed chopping is because of one particular entry that took 15 hours to do. I can't conceive putting in that kind of time. I tested my theory and chopped something similar to it, and limited myself to 15 minutes, and got some pretty comparable results I must say, but I'm not sure I should post it, at least not until that contest is over.

Any chance of making this kind of contest happen?

I don't vote. Send it to me personally.

Also, we can do it. I typically go for speed, for all the good taking my time does for me. I'm trying to think of the fastest whatever that I've dropped, but I don't know...give me a theme (or, we can come up with this, and the brackets if we get enough people to play) and turn me loose.

When it comes to speed of finding pictures and then speed of chopping with quality results, I am pretty darn good. I would guess you got something going on as well if something you did in 15 minutes approximates something you did in 15 hours (given that so many of your things place now...which is also funny given how much you started out whining about not winning every tournament you entered).

Anyway, this is an idea I've had for a long time, but there has never been enough active participants in this forum to make it happen, and the people at W1K are way too huge of snobs to even suggest this...

Well funnily enough some of my most successful chops were done quickly, in a couple of hours. Mostly mine take a lot longer,

As Mac said, we have a lot of international choppers here, so speed contest would be a challenge - a lot of people would miss it.
Years ago we had two or 3 contests with 10 to 12 hours submission span. It was when some big news broke and we wanted to have the contest results/chops ready asap. We had lots of complaints though from members who "saw it only now, and it was already finished"

I don't want to speak for the Vicster, but...well...yes I do. I think by Vic's comments and my posting the pic of the tournament brackets, we're saying that arranging head to head match-ups with different themes for each, the time differences could be easily overcome.

Here, I actually won't speak for him, but I'd be willing to coordinate this and give the participants they theme at the start of the match, but I'd need a partner in case I couldn't be johnny on the spot every time, and I'd also, of course, need participants.

Not feeling the excitement or seeing anyone expressing any kind of interest around this idea, however, my enthusiasm to set anything up (even just for fun in the forum...what do I care if this makes it to the main page or not???) in not exactly high...

Maybe not, for it to work the time would have to be set in advance say a day and the contest to happen when most people who want to participate are likely to be awake.

After 10 pm would work for me as I am 5 hours ahead of the East Coast of America 8 hours ahead of the West Coast. Oz is about 10 hours ahead of me so it might not work so well for the Aussies. Italy is about 2 hours ahead of me.

Hi Azure, congrats on first place by the way.
The speed contest does not have to be on at the same time for everyone, the contestants would have to wait for everyone in all the time zones to be done before it all ends and voting begins.
However if you only have an hour, at what time does this hour begin? it would have to be not during regular work time, but in the evening when people are home.
9-10 pm would sound good, but I'm not sure how many would participate.
I can see how difficult this would be, if not impossible to put together being that it's international.
Too bad, maybe someone has a better idea on some kind of speed contest.

If you and Malcolm sort out a time and day and time maybe we could work something out. Depends what time zone you are on. If you two are available at 6pm I could do mine at 11pm my time.

I doubt this idea will ever be official, but to keep things even for all contestants it would not be a free for all do as you may contest, but we would be given a theme or an image to work with so everyone would start out even, and not be a news as it happens because no one would be able to start at same time.
Not sure I'm being clear, but this will probably not happen, anyway thanks for listening.
Going to Boston on a mini vacation on Thursday, so no contests for me till next week, keep on chopping ya'll.
