London Olympics 2012

Will there be contest about the Olympics. The USA are at the top as I write this.
What I find wonderful is the generosity of the Americans towards athletes from other countries.
Many athletes from other countries have been given the opportunity to receive top class training they could not have got otherwise. This includes many British young people.
So often America's generosity is not appreciated. Much of what they do is not reported. As always the press seem to prefer to be negative.
I have also noticed what good sports they are, being sure to congratulate the winner. Unlike some countries such as China who consider it a disaster if they don't get a gold.
Mind you, I think their athletes are put under enormous pressure from a very early age. I was shocked to learn children are put in training camps at the age of 7 and drilled remorselessly.
The Aussies and Canadians are great characters and good sports too. I think of Kellie and Mac when the Aussies are on. Disasterman is in my thoughts when I see the maple leaf.
Russia is confusing because there are so many different parts now. Where I wonder does Newsy hail from? Ukraine?, Belarus?, or one of the many others? Or Russia itself?
I am loving the Olympics, my husband is getting enthusiastic too. We were thrilled to bits when Jessica Ennis won the heptathlon and Mo Farah the 10,000metres with his training mate Galen Rupp who came 2nd but was so happy for Mo.
Michael Phelps now has 21 gold medals! What an amazing guy!

Funny how that works....my parents are from Scotland & England, so when the Canadians aren't in an event I still have some entertainment from the games!

That's how we get new citizens - Canada does it, too. You didn't think Ben Johnson (who was robbed of the medals that were rightfully his) was a natural born Canadian, did you?

Heck, we'd use this to help Castro himself defect if he could still throw in the mid-90s with good movement on his fastball.

God bless America!!!

(We give to the UN quite a bit as well...how 'bout some love for our permanent spot on the Security Council or our generous contributions to the IMF? Give it up, world...c'mon...I CAN'T HEAR YOU!!!)
