Congrats Vicspa on the Rembrandt gold!!!
****It was real good***

I hear what you say Newsmaster and I will limit my input, because it seems to really bother you Admins to defend the exiting rules. (Little touchy I think, but then, I'm American, and many here are not). I'm used to debate and 'friendly' discourse of policy.
I would only have you remember Newsmaster that because this is a site dealing with monetary awards.... you make money and in turn owe it to members to answer these kinds of issues at all times without complaining that "you have answered it before." This thread never got hijacked or turned... it was about "not getting it" ie. voting! Be kind. Answer (as you have everyone's concerns), with kindness and patience. You make your internet fortune here and members are "customers" to a degree. We all deserve as much respect as you Admins do. There has been no name calling or profanity here. You will always have new members trying hard to fit in, compete and get along with the rules. I should have not been treated so poorly before or read answers that indicate myself or others are causing trouble. I do not know what will help you get the voting thing rock solid and completely fair. Once again, I DO appreciate your answers. (I have never seen one of you Admins with less than 300 Karma, so that was news to me.)
You will ALWAYS have some new person question the system. You told us voting used to be another way. I have only been here 6 months and did not know that either.
Thank you for your antisipated good leadership in this matter.

"First off let me say, Your chops are so WOW! You are the one and only people I voted a 9 for. I am working out the kinks of this site and will stick around as long as it makes me happy. I love to create and this site has challenged me to chop things that I am not used to doing. If you know the vibe at deviantart you get what im talking about. Anyway, I will try to fit in here and not take things so personally. Thanks for your advice!"

Veroni, I have been photoshopping fo a living for about 20 years now I am not an expert but I'm not too bad at it, I too have learned a lot from this site and there is always more to learn that's why I'm still here. If i can be of any help to you or anyone else please do not hesitate to ask.
Have fun most of all.

Laredog, admins do answer questions without being blunt normally. But when the same person asks the same questions over and over, basically trying to find fault with the system because they can't understand why they don't win, and try to convince others that to win you have to be in some clicky group, then yes, admins patience will be tested.

Healthy debate here is not discouraged, it is welcomed. And freedom of speech is acknowledged.

However, there is a difference between freedom of speech, and just saying what you like (which can offend other members) or repeating the same arguments over and over when they have been addressed/explained to you here already or elsewhere.

Thank you M&fries for your input. I pray you and Newsmaster are completely truthful in what you tell us:
Hard to do. Not because of you, but because it is an election year in the USA!!!! lol.

“To be persuasive we must be believable; to be believable we must be credible; to be credible we must be truthful.”

I apologize to those of you I've upset with my questions and doubt. I agree... you can only scream "we are innocent" for so long before anger sets in.
Don't blame others for asking the same questions however, In fact, if they continue to ask the same questions concerning fairness and inpartiality, look first in the mirror and see if there isn't a better way to explain how the system works.
Maybe a rewrite on the Karma/voting pages (explanation)...who knows. (Remember, you say my same questions are "over and over" but just today (after all this drama) I learned 2 facts I did not know before 1. that Admins can lose Karma and not always be 300, and 2. that FN tried a difference voting system before that did not work! Would it have killed you to say that before instead of being so defensive?
Finally; This IS NOT because I don't win! I know my skills are lacking compared to others. After only 6 months of Photoshopping, I think I've done ok with the art. If the system is fair.. then there is nothing stopping me from winning...right?
I would not have even tried this FN thing(as a photographer by trade) if not for a NOW ex-friend here. A person at least I considered a friend since we shared real life in a very close manner many years ago. She was and is a very good artist, and you'll be happy to learn that she unfriended me, because she also thought I was trashing you artists here at FN. I never 'trash' artists or art, but I always question injustice, bias, favoritism and corruption.
You say it doesn't exist here and I have to trust you are telling the truth.
If it makes you all feel better Macwithfries, I am heartbroken over the whole deal.
I learned that some folks are as phony as a Photoshopped photograph. I also learned being popular here by kissing butt is for others, not me.
Happy Chopping.
Lare

Malcom, you said you can now pick out my chops, I'm curious, really curious what is giving it away??? Please fill me in. I like to think that I'm like a chameleon, ever changing, or to say it better, like dog doodoo, kinda all over the place. And yes, I'm here a short time but I can now pick out the work of quite a few people, but I only judge on photoshop ability as I see it, and don't care how many times Obama appears, if it's not chopped well, he gets a low vote. I have given a 9 but not a 10 yet, waiting for that perfect AZRainman or Pike chop (lol)

[Edited by User on 7/15/2012 5:09:07 PM]

1st of all, I don't vote, so me picking someone out or not picking someone out doesn't really matter. I do comment from time to time directly on the entries, but even that is rare (I was gonna start voting again, but my tastes are so wildly different than everyone else, that when I did my karma remained at 1, so I just bagged on the idea again).

Anyway, not only can I tell your style, I can tell when someone is copying your style (as has happened more than a couple times now...the ultimate compliment, really). How do I do it? It's not that tough. You're good and you're atypical. I appreciate that, so I notice it. What can I say? I like dog crp.

Veroni,

I see your problem now. You like old stuff. Old stuff means old pictures. Old pictures come from a time before life was lived in 300dpi.

Voters don't live outside of the 300dpi box. That means that they will flat vote you down simply because your subject matter wasn't created by Pixar.

I have the same problem.

The SNF/Bigfoot mash-up was smooth. I didn't look at that contest and have no idea what won, so I can't say if others were better or worse, but yours was nice. I will say to you what I say to everyone who brings up the issue that you are bringing up currently (I think I gave it to a couple people in this thread, as a matter of fact...) - do it because you want to do it or don't do it because you don't want to do it. Picasso didn't start an artistic revolution to get votes, and he was an incredibly skilled traditional painter who could have gotten "votes" by the metric sh!t ton had that been his goal.

Of course, no one would know who the heck he was today if he had gone that route, but I'm sure it would have been infinitely less frustrating for him as he embarked on his journey which forever changed the art of oil on canvas painting.

Malcom, thanks for the candid answer, as for someone copying "my style" I didn't think I had one to copy, but as you said it's the ultimate compliment. I copied the repeat winners here, that's what got me to do "caricatures", something I had never done before.

A long time ago a teacher of mine said " be like a chameleon".

Laredog, I like your "rebel" like attitude, my motto in life is "question Everything" I'm getting older and don't rebel as much, but I still question everything.

As far as Karma goes, I'm still at one, and I do believe I'm voting fair. Oh well, see ya in the funny papers.

Thank you Vicspa for the 'rebel' complement. I too tend to question everything. Not alot of people understand me, or even try.
You know... think about this for a moment Newsmaster... if the goal of threads is to get people to share their opinions...then look at this thread with that in mind. 20 comments and 241 views so far!! I'd say this thread wins gold over all the others this week. You should pay me, not condemn me. lol.

The copying happened on specific entries. I think you commented and gave the people advice since they weren't quite as successful as you were in their execution.

I've been dropping the caricatures as well. I don't like them, but whatever...when in Rome and all. It's a bit harder for me right now because the PC I'm using would blow up if I used any plug-ins, so I'm runnin' 100% stock at the moment...hopefully I'll get mine back soon so I'm not handicapped so much.

Whatever...it's all just for fun and time wasting.

So, I didn't really go out and check the entries yesterday when I saw this, but I was just poking around and without looking for it, I ran across your entry.

Congrats on another win (I assume, and a well deserved one in my opinion)

EDIT - this is a different entry than the one you are referencing. I would bet up to half of my reproductive organs that this one is you as well, though (you just never can be sure, though, so half is all I'm willing to wager).

I understand about deadlines vicspa, I work too but nothing grand like you and the other professionals. We have a small print company so do things like stationery, logos, small runs of books and magazines.

My husband is a compositor, keyboard operator (monotype) then computer and spent all his working life in the print business. I worked in advertising in the days when you did things by hand. I also worked in boring paste up at a newspaper.

I do photoshop for fun, but it isn't often I get a really great idea. I have an awful lot to learn about the new filters. The standard here gets higher and higher.

Hoping you meet your deadline and will be back soon vicspa.
