Stones are 50

They celebrates their 50th anniversary as a band today. Since you did Paul, I just thought I'd mention it as another contest idea.

Great idea. When I was at college in the '60s I was in lodgings with other students. One was a boy with light blonde hair called Ken Jones.

His favourite topic of conversation was the wonderful band his brother Brian was in. The rest of us used to tease him about it.

They had not released a record then, but soon after "Come on" came out. The rest is history!

There's no official birthday date for the Stones, but they consider their birthday year to be 1963 (when Charlie Watts joined), and plan to celebrate it in 2013, after which they plan to retire.

They have an "official 1st show" as The Rolling Stones (Rollin' Stones...same thing) and it was in the summer of '62 (July, though they used the name to identify themselves prior to that).

Whatever...I was just givin' you a hard time, because seriously? Paula Abdul?

Just today alone, you've got John Goodman, Lionel Richie, BRIAN WILSON and Nichole Kidman. Tomorrow is John Paul Sartre, for you hoity-toity types, Ray Davies,Tom Chambers (former slam dunk champ and member of The Sonics and Suns...kinda a long shot, but a personal fave of mine, and the man who had one of the greatest in game dunks in NBA history), and of course, Prince William (since that kind of person seems to be big around here, even though I could care less about the lad).

And, in the next few days, we've got Meryl Streep, Mick Fleetwood, Cindi Lauper, Carley Simon, GEORGE ORWELL, and Ricky Gervais, just to name a few more.

But you went with Paula Abdul. I'm not trying to rag on you...I'm just sayin'.

The reason we went with Paula's birthday is that she turned the big 5-0.
Unless it's a "classic artist" birthday (Escher, Leonardo, and so on), we only do celeb birthdays for big dates like 30, 40, 50, 60, and sometimes for multiples of 5 too (55, 65, etc..).

I seriously can't believe you put Escher in the same category as da Vinci, even casually, but OK. "Classic Artist" means strictly someone who paints (perhaps among other things, like the big boys - Michelangelo, da Vinci, van Gogh and so on), I take it? How far do we go in time and still consider someone a "classic artist"? Warhol? Pollock (though, what the heck would you photoshop a la Pollock)? I have to assume Picasso counts if Escher does.

No big...just a curiosity question.

The Stones did not release their first record until early 1963 when it hit the stratosphere!

As for Paula Abdul...Paula who??? Please can't you have people who are REALLY famous? So many USA celebs are unknown outside their own country.

You might as well start doing contests for the Kardashians....!

I think Paula Abdul is a waste of skin, but she did have 3 top 10 songs in The UK, and 7 top 40 hit songs overall in addition to her many choreography gigs in movies I'm sure hit your shores and her role on American Idol, which I know many Brits follow.

She's a bona fide world celeb, she's just kind of a dumb one.

American Idol isn't on the mainstream channels here. I don't know what the viewing figures are. She doesn't figure all that much over here these days.
