OK...I haven't been posting in this forum much (a thing for which I'm sure most are eternally grateful), but help me out here.

I don't expect to win these contests, and I don't care if I do at all, but when I get last place in a contest that had some god awful, sloppy, non-cohesively themed chops, I get annoyed enough to write something like this.

So, what is wrong with this chop:

I'm afraid you got last place for the same reason I get bad results.... and it has less to do with the chops....
Kind of like my 'Suggestion' after this last contest to rename FN the AZRainman News! They can't take a joke Malcohmxy

The Saturday Night Fever pic ain't exactly of the highest quality, but that was the biggest, best quality version that I could find without spending untold hours looking for a better one, and I really wanted to put together what I did because I liked the symmetry with Travolta pointing upward, this was, BY FAR, The Bee Gees biggest selling album of all time (and was the highest selling album of all time until Thriller supplanted it a year after Thriller's release) and, along with Steve Martin's "Wild and Crazy Guy", it was my first "real" album ever (I had some Spiderman and Fantastic Four read along records as well as Peter and the Wolf and a few other children's records, but these two hand me downs from my parents at age 6 were my first "big boy" records...incidentally, the first records I purchased with my own money were Metallica - Master of Puppets and Prince - Love ... y...which is a highly underrated album due to the fact that Prince was p!ssed at Warner Bros at the time and refused to add tracking points to the album, so on CD, one was forced to listen to it from start to finish or fast forward, and fast forwarding wasn't a highly developed feature on CD players of the time...but, I digress).

Anyway, it is well faded from black to the clouds above (this took 3 layers of gradients) and also, Gibb's head fades quite well in the opposite direction, which is exactly the effect I was going for.

The word, "Tragedy", while perhaps thought to be somewhat irreverent by some (OK...so it was a little bit, but come on...it's the phukking Bee Gees, for God's sake, not Mozart), was actually a tongue-in-cheek tribute to the Gibb boys as this was the title to one of their biggest hit songs (and one of the few I still enjoy by them). I posted a link to it in the comments for anyone curious enough to click on it.

I also molded the word around his head (in Photoshop, I believe you call this Liquifying) so that it wasn't just hanging out there and I used a gradient that matched the sky fairly well so that it blended in more or less seamlessly.

And yet, last place. Can someone explain. Again, I wasn't expecting the win or nothing as I know this style doesn't play well here, but the work was of such a higher quality, both technically and conceptually, that at least half the other entries, I gotta wonder why it ended up in the cellar.

Is my stuff easy to spot, and because everyone knows I don't care about voting scores, for the most part, it's easy to vote me into last place and vote less deserving entries ahead of me? Because, if that's so, it's just insulting.

Or maybe it really does suck that bad and the stuff I saw that was all disjointed and poorly put together is really technically masterful and I am just oblivious to it all.

If that's the case, please do not hesitate to tell me so. Better to know I suck that to continue on not knowing.

It was barely a joke. Slightly tongue in cheek, but contained...ya know...stuff actually relating to the person in question.

Like I said, I wasn't expecting the win, but there is some sloppy-ss work in that contest. To be ranked below half those entries is flat-out insulting.

I can't fault AZ. He's got a style (schtick, really, but to most people, that's the same thing) that doesn't appeal to me personally, but it isn't as if I can tear up one of his pics because the boy did a sh!t job. He's got good technical skills.

But c'mon. Did you see half the garbage in that contest? My Lord...

If you don't care about the subject AND your chopping skills are weak as well, DON'T ENTER THE CONTEST.

I certainly have nothing against AZR either. In fact, I respect his talent and most of his concepts. And, I DID NOT say your Gibb piece was a joke either. What I meant was that the rulers here that run this show have a hard time taking a joke (or honest feedback for that matter). I have this feeling that no matter how good one of my creations is.... I will get a lesser score than if I had just remained quiet and played Mr. Brown Nose here.
Problem is.... my nose is tan because of the sun, not from kissing anyone's backside!
As long as the moderators know who submitted which work before voting, their votes have the potential for favoritism. If they were all truely done by "Hidden", then AZ would still win most, but some of the rest of us might just pick up a wooden trophy once in awhile. It's all in good fun. No biggie. I quit caring about whether I rate her or not.

The mods aren't the issue. As I've said many times before, I can tell exactly when they vote (I think), and they give me sh!tty scores when that's what I deserve and good scores when I deserve those.

My only issue with the mods would be that they have to keep their karma high and they know what 99% of the votes for an entry are before they vote, so I would think that they purposely don't stray too far from the voting average so that their karma remains maxed out.

Or, they may be able to manipulate their karma manually if they want to go abnormally high or low on an entry. I obviously have no idea, but I do know that the votes that I think have been theirs have always been abundantly fair (and, who are ya gonna dislike around here more than me? so, if they wanted to dump on an entry, or group of entries, one would think I would be in and amongst the group to which they would perpetrate this covert vote dump upon).

And, like I have said over and over, I don't care if I win, but when I'm rated below substandard work, I find that somewhat insulting. I'm fully over it, but it was annoying at the time.

FreakingAZRainmanNews rolling on the floor with laughter!!!Looking through FN one might be forgiven for thinkings o. The guy is a Freaking Genius. If that's brown nosing I don't care because it is my honest opinion.

The fact that AZRainmen, and the other illustrius choppers such as salis, PixelJockey deaddog, PSMandrake, sunshin3, preemeemie to name a few, win so often just reinforces my opinion that they should have a league of their own.

In sports there are leagues with different levels for different abilities, it is high time this was done here. I don't see why there can't be a Super League here, now. They could have it twice or three times a week.

Anyone could enter if they feel brave enough. Frown those of us with less than 10 gold trophies our contest needs to be for us. No top choppers allowed. That way we would at least have a small chance of winning the 5 prize.

I will do a poll on the subject. Having the above arrangement until the new server is up and running without putting extra strain on it.

I think this chop is good. You should have come higher. I think I gave it a 6 or 7. My entry didn't do as well as I had hoped either. The caricatures beat it into submission. I avoided caricatures as it was a tribute contest.

I wonder if the younger members understood what you were saying in your chop, maybe they didn't know Tragedy was a BeeGees hit and that John Travolta became a superstar after starring in The Movie Staying Alive which was written by the BeeGees.

They won't remember the sensation he caused and how so many men started wearing white suits with flares, along with black or brown shirts. Not fashion's finest hour. The photo of Robin makes him look almost handsome too. He had got rid of the buck teeth by then.

The only person of that style that I consistently like is the only one you didn't mention - Rickytrek (something like that...I know everyone knows who I'm talking about).

I don't necessarily like what he places in the foreground, but his backgrounds are both amazingly intricate and wonderfully designed.

I usually ignore the main subject, but there's almost always enough goodies in the background to hold my attention, and that's saying something.

I wasn't born in the 50s or 60s, but i know all about the Monkees (since that was a recent contest), Jack Nicholson (Five Easy Pieces is one of my all time favorite movies...gathering of sweaty men scene with Sally Struthers...hilarious), WW2 Propaganda, and also things like The Wu-Tang Clan, The Kills, RA The Rugged Man and so on (ask your kids)

I make sure I know about their sh!t before I offer criticism (since I don't vote), I expect at least the same courtesy from them.

(and, I linked to the song in my picture description for anyone curious to click the link...I didn't make it obvious that the link would lead to the song.)

Happy Memorial Day to you Laredog. We have our Remembrance Day in November, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.

As for the youngsters not getting things that happened in our day, I don't think there is any way to convey just how exciting Elvis and The Beatles were or how much impact they had. Michael Jackson and Madonna had a big effect but nothing like as big as Elvis and The Beatles. They changed the world as we know it.

Nobody can possibly understand what WW1 and WW2 were like to live through. Millions of soldiers, civilians and animals killed. I was horrified by what happened to the horses in WW1. So many were pets or farm animals, just taken away without the consent of their owners.

At least we are old enough to have heard first hand accounts from people who were alive in WW1 and find out the long term effects.
The younger generation have Iraq and Afghanistan to contend with now. It seems nobody in power ever learns that war solves nothing.

At least now we value what our servicemen and women are doing, unlike the Vietnam veterans who were sent there to fight and die, and then were spat upon coming home.
Happy Memorial Day.

I am shocked to hear how returning soldiers from Vietnam were treated. They didn't have any choice about going.

The UK wisely kept out of that war, I think their experiences in Malaya Japan and Korea taught them to avoid jungle warfare. Shame they didn't keep out of Iraq and Afghanistan. As soon as the troops leave Afghanistan, the Taliban will be right back.

OK...let's say that I have 2 entries in one contest.

One of those entries is of absolutely inferior quality, and in fact, it is of poor quality overall, not just in comparison to the other entry.

The other entry is of superb quality, but has abstract elements to it that don't conform to what the normal "abstract" style of photomanipulation is around here.(the fact that there is a "normal abstract" makes it ridiculous on several levels, and Azure...I appreciate the links you sent me, but I can't use those pictures because I think they suck...if someone likes them, then that's cool and they should use them, but if I use them, anything I make with them will suck because I think it will suck because it contains elements of those pictures...if that makes sufficient nonsense...)

At that point, can I objectively say that something is messed up, or is it just sour grapes?

(oops...forgot to mention - the poor quality work is FAR SURPASSING the quality work in the points it is receiving from voters...)

So sorry you didn't like the links, I think I sent one with Wonderwoman, the other was advertising from the 1950's with some great car images. If you think they suck it must be because you are too young to appreciate what I actually think was an art form in it's own right. I will send it to vicspa to see if he likes it.

I appreciate the thought you put into getting those links for me, and I'm not saying they suck for everyone. They are simply not to my tastes. So, if I use them, I can pretty much guarantee whatever I make will suck because of how unenthused I will be with the idea that includes them.

really, thank you for sending them my way, because I know you did so with the intention of helping me, and if I could find a way to use them, I'm sure it would help me score better, but in the end, I'd feel wrong about it.

That's my thing, though. What you did was cool and I wasn't trying to insult you or the pictures you sent. I am just annoyed with conformity, especially when the conformity is centered around a so-called artform.

Again, all my issues.

However, there is only one Wonder Woman:
