American Paintings pictures - The 4th of July is just around the corner - time for the Independence Day celebrations and fireworks. To celebrate the 4th of July at Freaking News, take any painting and give it an American theme. Some examples are: incorporating the American Flag (or flag colored clothes) in paintings, putting any American President in paintings, placing an American bald eagle in paintings, setting the US Capitol in paintings, etc. Here's a good example 1 and good example 2.
Durer Paintings pictures - May 21 is the 537th birthday of Albrecht Durer - the most famous German painter and printmaker. He became famous in his twenties for his prints and paintings, which finally made him the greatest artist of the Renaissance in Northern Europe. Durer came from a family of eighteen children, his father was a goldsmith. The name "Durer" is derived from "Thurer" which means doormaker. To celebrate the 537th birthday of the most famous German painter, photoshop any of Durer paintings or prints any way you wish. Some examples are: think about how his art would be different if he created it these days, would he be depicting celebrities, modern devices, or making advertisements and movie posters? These are just some ideas.
Dali Paintings pictures - This Sunday is the 104th birthday of a Spanish surrealist painter Salvador Dali. While his painting skills were influenced by the masters of Renaissance, Dali used a lot of hidden symbolism in his art. For example, in Dali's most famous painting - The Persistence of Memory - the soft watches symbolize Einstein's theory that time is relative and not fixed. To celebrate the birthday of the world's most famous surrealist painter Salvador Dali, show what his art would be like if he created it these days with a power of Photoshop rather than brushes and paint. Would he be doing advertisements, or maybe even posters for movies? See example 1 , example 2, example 3 , and example 4.
Da Vinci Paintings pictures - Artists around the world celebrate the 556th birthday of Lenoardo Da Vinci today. Leonardo was not only arist but also a great scientist, inventor and mathematician of his times. Some scientists say that Da Vinci was "Einstein of Renaissance". To celebrate the 556th birthday of Leonadro Da Vinci, photoshop his works any way you wish. Some examples are: modernize his paintings by including modern objects, sceneries, or people; merge his paintings with movie posters (see example ) ; merge parts of Da Vinci's paintings with other famous paintings; commercialize his works by turning them into advertisements for modern products; turn them into billboards, etc. These are just some ideas. Here's another good example. You are welcome to use Da Vinchi's frescos and numerous sketches (e.g. Vitruvian man) in addition to paintings.
Alien Paintings pictures - The United Nations named 2009 as the International Year of Astronomy and called for its member countries to disclose the secret documents on UFO & ET sightseeings. So far, France is the only country that publicly opened its files on UFOs and E.T. (in 2007). In this contest our mission is to prove that alien sightseeings happened through all the history of mankind by including aliens in the famous (and not so famous) paintings, sketches and frescos. You can either add new alien figures in paintings, or turn the existing figures into aliens (alien Mona Lisa, etc.). Take a look at one good example.
Van Gogh Paintings pictures - Past Sunday artists around the world celebrated the 155th birthday of Vincent Willem van Gogh. The Dutch Post-Impressionist artist who produced some of the world's most famous and most expensive art pieces spent all his lite as a poor man. After trying careers as an art dealer, teacher, and even a preacher, Van Gogh became a self-taught artist at the age of 27 and produced over 2000 works in his life time, the most famous ones in his last two years. Ironically his art was unpopular at the time, Van Gogh hardly sold any of his works during his life, and lived as a "starving artist" relying on a modest monthly support from his brother Theo. To celebrate the 155th birthday of Vincent van Gogh, photoshop his paintings any way you wish. Some examples are: modernize his paintings by including modern objects, sceneries, or people; merge parts of Van Gogh's paintings with other famous paintings; commercialize his works by turning them into advertisements for modern products; turn them into billboards, etc. These are just some ideas.

Military Paintings pictures - Russian president Vladimir Putin announced the resumption of long-range nuclear bomber patrols which is part of the Kremlin's plan to restore Cold War military units and the Russia's world status of the major military power. The allocated budget for such military expansion is over $200 billion, and will include the doubling of aircraft production by 2025 with major increase in the number of nuclear missiles, aircraft carriers, and tanks. Russia's substantial resources of oil and gas sold to Europe, allowed massive cash injections into Russian military machine, which is getting stronger than ever. Take any military elements - weapons, uniforms, etc. - and add them to works of art - paintings, sketches, or statues. Examples may include drafted Mona Lisa in khaki uniform holding a machine gun, tanks fighting with dragons, nuclear blast destroying the ancient city of Pompeii, etc. We will accept military elements of any country from the 1980s till the present days.
Merged Paintings pictures - During the routine X-Ray examination of Van Gogh's painting "The Ravine", displayed at the Boston Museum, another painting by Van Gogh was discovered in the deeper layer. Surprisingly, historians have been looking for this "hidden" painting elsewhere for decades, as its sketches known as "Wild Vegetation" were previously found and gave an indication that the complete painting should exist somewhere. Both paintings were done in 1889 with the gap of four months, when the famous Dutch painter decided that he no longer liked the "Wild Vegetation" and painted over it. Merge any two or more classic paintings together. The artist does not have to be the same. For the purposes of this contest we will also accept sketches and fresco (wall paintings).
Valentine Paintings pictures - In the Renaissance times, there was no Valentine's Day. A slap on the ass and "Love Ya" would pretty much express the affection of man to his wife. Today there's only a slap on the ass. In this contest you are asked to add romantic Valentine's Day theme to old famous paintings. Try to modernize it where you can by adding modern day valentine's day gifts to the paintings. Examples may include Whistler's mother with the box of Hershey's Kisses, or Mona Lisa holding a bouquet of roses and valentine's card.
Winter Paintings pictures - Upstate New York towns near the great lakes that border the U.S. and Canada are under historic snowfall of over 11 feet. Weather people say the snow is coming from Canada. Canadians say that they never get this much snow in a week, as they normally get this much in a day. To mark this snowfall, you are asked to "winterize" any famous paintings by adding snow to them and adding warm winter clothes to the characters in the paintings. Adding snow is a must, adding winter clothes is optional.
Frederic Leighton Paintings pictures - December 3 is the birthday of famous English painter Frederic Leighton. Even though I knew many of Leighton's masterpieces, I must admit I did not know his name until recently. That's the thing about art - we know the masterpieces but we might not know the authors. Show "Mona Lisa" painting to a redneck and he'll tell you he knows it, but ask him who Leonardo Da Vinci is and he'll tell you it's the kid who played the main role in "Titanic" movie. In this contest you are asked to photoshop Frederic Leighton's paintings in any way you like. Examples may be modernizing them in any way, adding politicians/celebrities to them, or making them promote any products & services.
Broken Paintings pictures - Police in Norway recovered Edvard Munch's paintings "The Scream" and "Madonna", two years after armed robbers stole them from a museum in Oslo. Museum officials said they are upset to find the paintings in rough condition. Well, what do you expect? Thieves stealing paintings for the love of art, enjoying them on their walls for a year, doing extra restoration work, and then returning the paintings in better than original condition? Well, thank you thieves! Next time please stop by to take some more masterpieces, we need some restoration done to them for years! That's thieves, we are talking about, folks. The guys who break car windows to get stereos and rob museums of whatever valued trash people consider art. And accusing thieves of not taking good care of paintings is like accusing Britney Spears of not taking good care of her kids. Except that Britney is slightly less qualified. In this contest you are asked to show how thieves "broke" objects in the paintings - e.g. broken table in "Last Supper", torn clothes in Mona Lisa, cracked ball in Escher's "Reflection", etc. The damage we are looking for is not to be to the painting texture, frame, paint, etc, but to the objects in the paintings as described above.
Sports Paintings pictures - Edit famous paintings to include modern sports in them. Entries showing sport "in action", in motion, are encouraged.
Paintings in Cross-Stitching? pictures - Recreate famous paintings/drawings with alternative techniques - cross-stitching, stained glass, mosaic, etc. Unlike Michelangelo and Mrs. Roberts, you have only 36 hours to do it.
Haunted Paintings pictures - Create images of famous paintings / drawings with a haunted element integrated.
Paintings on Architecture pictures - Paint the famous architecture - buildings, monuments, or statues (on the streets, not interior statues) - with famous art paintings. Using graffiti-type art or little known art is not allowed.
Paintings pictures - Create advertisements for products or services using any paintings and famous art.
Paintings images - In this contest you must construct the "ideal painting" by combining parts from PAINTINGS created by the Masters of the artworld (e.g. Mona Lisa as Van Gogh's autoportrait with cut ear, etc.)
Modernized Paintings pictures - Using any painting or artwork from one of the "Masters" - Leonardo Da Vinci, Rembrandt, etc. - create modernized versions of their work. Add modern clothing, places, or modernize items and things that brings their artwork to reflect today's environment.
Impressionist Paintings pictures - Add celebrities or politicians to impressionist paintings created by Van Gogh and Monet works using an impressionism style on the image again in the theme. Due to the contest change, Cassatt entries will still be allowed.
