What Killed the Dinosaurs
Contest Directions: Until recently, the most accepted theory of dinosaur extinction suggested that dinosaurs were wiped from the face of the planet because of the climatic changes caused by a gigantic asteroid hitting the Earth some 75 million years ago. However, the most recent research suggests that the dinosaurs were killed by disease carrying mosquitoes. The size of dinosaurs made them the biggest predators on Earth, but even the dinosaurs the size of a double decker could be infected and killed with a single mosquito bite.
Today you are to suggest your own theory of what really killed the dinosaurs. Try to be creative and don't be afraid to use even the most ridiculous scenarios of why the dinosaurs became extinct - smoking, drugs, Colonel Sanders, etc. Feel welcome to photoshop your theory as a book or magazine cover.

This contest is fueled by the following news: The extinction of dinosaurs extended for a long time in the history of Earth. For at least a million years, the action of some mysterious powers was needed for the extinction of dinosaurs, the largest animals on earth. What had happened within this span of time the question is left unanswered. About 65 millions years before, the Cretaceous period in geological history completed and along with that the horrible animals that died out. What happened? The answer to this question has been under research by scientists for more than a hundred years. More than 150 years ago French scientist Couvier said that the Earth had suffered several large disasters, due to this all plants and animals died. After every such disaster the animal and plant worlds again developed, but in a more subtle form. Versions: why did dinosaurs become extinct? Arguing about why dinosaurs became extinct, scientists brought forward several speculations. A group of scientists say that probably dinosaurs became extinct after a change in the earth's climate. According to others, the reason for the extinction is the flower bearing plants which appeared at the end of Jurassic period. With their appearance, the content of oxygen increased this induced the animal's metabolism. And the third group of scientists says that the first mammals which appeared in the cretaceous period started eating the eggs of the dinosaurs. Another version is the dinosaur's death was caused by the emergence of supernova star, when a big dose of cosmic rays brought changes in their gametes pairing cells. But, nonetheless, the majority of scientists are inclined towards the first version. Slivers of dinosaur's egg shells basically confirm this assumption. The staff of Yeaks museum searched for dinosaur's eggs. They predicted that lizards, though they lived in swamps, laid eggs on land. In the northern part of the Yeaks basin in the Cretaceous period, mountain Saint Victoir took shape, which according to scientists opinion, was a comfortable place for laying eggs. After sending an expedition to this region, it was possible find the real treasure of eggs. Dinosaurs came to this area with ancient swamp shores, to lay eggs. Most probably, the female dinosaur did not do any lunule, she just sat and laid one to five eggs. Then later went a step further and again laid several eggs parallel to the first row, then again went further. For such giant animals, eggs were small in size, like a football. Scientists discovered that egg shells found in the most ancient layers were the same. Their structure did not differ from eggs shells of modern reptiles. But in shells found among the layers of the much later period, one can see some deviations in the norms. Multiple notches and riffles speak about the discretions in the formation of the lime shell in the mother's body. The majority of those shells are double-layered, trilaminar, but some happened to be seven layers too. French scientists say that this is due to a disease in the dinosaurs. It seems the cleavage of the egg shell is due to heat fluctuations in the atmosphere. In the times of strong but short nips which were shorter than the process of egg shell formation, dinosaurs went into hibernation. Then when warmness came, egg formation restarted. Scientists assume that the changes in heat and cold were irregular. Probably one or several fluxes brought the dinosaur's extinction. It seems many hibernating animals did not wake up anymore, and their laid eggs perished due to lack of sun. And maybe the hatching babies could not open the shell because it had become too thick to break. This theory has some flaws too. Now it is already proven that dinosaurs widely inhabited the earth. This means, if to assume, dinosaurs died due to strong periodic fluctuations in temperatures, then we can concede that fluctuations were ubiquitous. And this certainly should reflect not only on the existence of dinosaurs. The extinction of dinosaurs extended up to no less than a million years. A whole million years, an action of some mysterious powers were needed for the extinction of the dinosaurs, the largest animals on earth. What had happened within this span of time the question is left unanswered. The kingdom of dinosaurs is still waiting to be studied by the scientists.
