This contest is fueled by the following news: A number of astronomers have advised that they have discovered what they now believe is the birth of what amounts to the smallest known solar system. Looking through both ground and space based telescopes, astronomers have observed what appears to be a disk of gas and dust. What is known as a brown dwafr, located 500 light years away in the constellation called Chamaeleon, appears to undergoing the planet forming process that one day might result in a solar system, according to Kevin Luhman at Pennsylvania State University who has led the research team. It has long been believed that our very own solar system came into its own extistence when a cloud of gas and dust collapsed to form the sun and the planets. This apparently occured about 4.5 billion years ago.
