This contest is fueled by the following news: People Magazine has pegged Matthew McConaughey as being the sexiest man alive. The screen star is featured on the cover of People's annual issue that hit newsstands on Friday. McConaughey told the magazine that he felt he had arrived. He is the 20th sexiest man selected by the magazine; Mel Gibson first captured the honor in 1985. People noted that it selected McConaughey in part because of his Southern charm. The actor noted that it wasn't the sexiest part of the title that he liked best. Rather, he favored the "alive" part used in the designation. As per the Time magazine, the title of "Person of the Year 2005" was conferred on the founder of the company "Microsoft" Bill Gates, his wife Melinda and Bono, leader of the group U2. The influential weekly journal noted about their efforts in reducing poverty and the fight against infectious diseases in the world. As indicated by the editor-in-chief of Time newsmagazine Jim Kelly, 2005 has been marked with record charitable donations, first of all, to those suffering due to natural cataclysms such as the tsunami in South East Asia and hurricane "Katrina". In 2006, Time has chosen "You" the internet user as the "Person of the Year". Thus, the edition has tried to stress upon the importance of simple people for the development of the modern world. In May 2007, Time prepared a list of the 100 most influential people of the world. Time named the project "List of 100 men and women" who's power, talent or moral example change the world. 71 men and 29 women from 29 countries figure in the list. The list includes German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Chairman of Peoples Republic of China Hu Jintao, Queen of Great Britain Elizabeth II, Pope Benedict XVI, King of Saudi Arabia Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Israel Tzipi Livni, US State Secretary Condoleezza Rice, Senator-Democrat Hillary Clinton, Party Leader of Indian National Congress Sonia Gandhi, Governor of State of California Arnold Schwarzenegger, Minister of Defence of Cuba Raul Castro, Speaker of House & Representatives of US Congress Nancy Pelosi, senator-democrat and US president Barrack Obama, mayor of New York Michael Blumberg, spiritual leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and others. Since ecological problems and especially global warming were taken-up actively in 2007, Time news-magazine has decided to prepare a list of those, who are actively involved in environment protection.
