Foot Faces
Contest Directions: Sarah Jessica Parker gave us the idea for this contest, simply because her face looks like a foot.
Merge celebrity faces with feet. Here's a good example. And If you find a shortage of good feet source photos, you can always grab a camera and take a picture of your feet :)
Many thanks to RealMeert, MacWithFries, and Sarah Jessica Parker for the contest concept.

This contest is fueled by the following news: Culture and customs linked with human feet: In European and Japanese cultures, it is accepted to cover the feet with footwear outdoors, basically for their protection from wounds. Footwear possesses a protective function: sandals, shoes, walking shoes, boots and jack boots. There are differences in the acceptance of wearing footwear indoors. In some countries of Europe, Canada and New Zealand, shoes are removed before entering the house. In Japanese tradition, removing footwear at the entrance is so widespread that the floors are covered specially to make it soft. In some cultures, showing-off bare feet is considered indecent and even offensive. In the Arabic world and Thailand, being barefoot is a sign of poverty or non traditional religious beliefs. The custom of bandaging the feet existed in China from the beginning of the 10th century till the beginning of the 20th century. In small girls, all toes, except the big toe and also the bones adjacent to them were fractured with a stick. Then the feet were dressed with bandages and were forced to wear small sized footwear, due to which the feet were considerably deformed often disabling them to walk in the future. Scientific areas dedicated to human feet: Many scientific and pseudo-scientific fields of knowledge are dedicated to human feet. The field of medicine involving healthy human feet is called "Podiatry". In Acupuncture, which is the Chinese national medicine, the foot has 34 out of 365 acupuncture points. Acupuncture of the foot is also named "pedopuncture". The Korean acupuncture called "Su –Jok" is dedicated completely to the hands and feet. Feet are an important part of allied acupuncture reflexology. There is a special kind of fortune telling — Podomancy- forecasting the future of a person and or his character looking at the lines on the feet and the shape of the toes. Special attention is drawn to human feet in dances, martial arts and the shoe industry; separate aspects are considered in physical training, plastic anatomy and forensic science. Anomalies of the human foot: • Anomalies of the foot: supianation / pronation: Platypodia; • Anomalies of the toes: the Syndactyly, Polydactyly. Functions of the foot in humans: The basic functions of the foot is to bear the weight of the body and provide support to the body during locomotion. Man is a plantigrade. The foot of man has three bony supports; two are situated in the anterior part of the foot and one in the posterior: on walking, first the heel touches the surface, then the lateral edges of the foot, sole pad and big finger. The fingers usually provide support on forward bending and when there is leg movement. A standing person can freely raise the fingers of both feet without disturbing the equilibrium. When we walk on the toes, the degree of stability depends on the length of the toes: If the toes are of the same length, then the weight of the body is distributed on a larger area of support; if the length of the medial part of the longitudinal arch is more than the length of the lateral parts (when the big toe is very long), then the load is distributed to a limited area of support. The anterior part of the foot, especially in the region of the toes, is mobile and constricted. The anterior part is relatively behind; the foot can be divided into straight, adducted and abducted. Also, the foot can be twisted along a longitudinal axis and its external and internal edges can be lifted. Metatarsal joints allow fulfilling the following functions: • Ankle flexion: Anterior tibial muscle, anterior peroneus muscle, anterior peroneus brevis muscles & extensor hallucis longus take part. • Planter flexion: Posterior tibial muscle, flexor digitorum longus, flexor hallucis longus , peroneus longus and peroneus brevis muscles take part. • Rotation in the median plane or adduction: Anterior peroneal muscle, posterior peroneal muscle, flexor digitorum longus and flexor hallucis longus take part. • Lateral rotation or abduction: Peroneus longus muscle, peroneus brevis muscle and extensor digitorum longus take part. • Flexion: Flexor digitorum longus, flexor hallucis longus, flexor digiti minimi brevis participate. It is also possible by the help of the phalanges; • Extension: Extensor digitorum longus, extensor hallucis longus and extensor short extensor of the toes take part. It is also possible with the help of the phalanges. Planter markings and skin patterns: The planter markings are investigated in forensic science. The bare foot markings are formed by the sole of the foot, in which the papillary pattern is of particular interest. The papillary pattern of the sole is characterised by the presence of the same details as the papillary pattern on the surface of the palms and fingers of the hand. The papillary patterns of human soles are studied by anthropologists. Anatomy of the human foot: The bones of the foot extend from the finger-tips to the heel merging in the foot body. The anterior part of the foot consists of metatarsals and toes and the posterior is formed by the tarsal bones. The toes include the phalanges of the foot skeleton. Metatarsal bones and phalanges are similar to metacarpal and phalanges, but they are less developed due to their less mobility. The human body has 206 bones, of which, 52 bones are present in the feet, which is one-fourth of all the bones in the body.
